September 2006 Respiratory Therapy Society of Ontario Fall Forum COPD education provided the participants with the knowledge to allow improved diagnosis and management of COPD using the recent Canadian Thoracic Society guidelines.
Respiratory Therapy Week October 23 - 28, 2006
October 23 - 27, 2006 "RT's In Action" We set up an interactive booth display in the student centre where volunteers assisted to promote Respiratory Therapy and accepted donations on behalf of the Canadian Lung Association. Some of the items displayed included Respiratory Therapy professional and program information, promotional items provided by the CSRT, intubation demonstrations, pulse oximetry, heart rate measurements, and blood pressure readings.
October 23 - 27, 2006 Loose Change For LungsWe raised over $600.00 with bracelet sales and donations across the city of London. All proceeds were donated to the Canadian Lung Association.
October 23, 2006 Table Tennis Tournament We hosted a co-ed table tennis tournament for faculty and students. Our goal was to promote health, fitness, and fun. The 2006 champions were Jose Contreras and Jessica Singh.
October 24, 2006 Code Blue SimulationRT and paramedic students at Fanshawe College re-enacted a code blue. Approximately 250 people gathered to observe the proper patient handling technique along with correct intubation techniques. The simulation demonstrated the RT's role in an emergency situation.
October 25, 2006 SARS ShowcaseIn the past few years, infection control has become a primary concern in hospitals. The R.T.S.F. members wore SARS suits to emphasize the importance of infection control while interacting with the student body.
October 26, 2006 RT Question And Answer Session Over 70 students were in attendance at the interactive forum where RRT's answered questions and described their roles and duties. The questions were insightful and displayed a genuine interest in the profession. Special thanks to our guest speakers Yvonne Drasovean, Shakib Naqshabondi, and Julie Brown.
October 31, 2006 Spook-O-Grams We delivered over 150 Spook-O-Grams to the RT faculty, TA, and first and second year students. Thank you for your continued support.
November 2006 Students Helping StudentsWe have successfully paired 30 first year and second year RT students to create a student mentoring program. These relationships will provide students with assistance in program related issues, concerns, and questions . November 30, 2006 Get Your Health On 365During the prevention convention we set up an interactive booth display where volunteers provided information on respiratory illnesses.
January 19, 2007 Hop On... We're Taking A TripThe RT students took a bus trip to the Stampede Ranch in Guelph. It was a funfilled evening, including a lot of laughs. The students danced the night away and before they knew it, the lights were on and back on the bus they went.
